Q1 How long the Tamil competitions have been conducted in Australia?
A: For the last 19 years in NSW, since 1994 and since 2006 the competition has been conducted in other parts of Australia and New Zealand.
 
Q2 Who conduct the competition
The Tamil competition was initiated by the Sydney University Tamil society in 1994 and run successfully until 2002. The Australian Society of Graduate Tamils (ASoGT) took over the project in 2003 and subsequently introduced it to other parts of Australia and New Zealand. ASoGT also introduced the national competitions in 2006.

Q6 Where can I get the details of the Tamil competitions 2013?
Visit www.tamilcompetition.org You may also get the details through our members and representatives of each state. The TC2013 information is also available through your Tamil schools.
 
Q7 What are the age groups and relevant competitions?

Q8 Who receives the prizes?
All the kids who participate in the competitions will receive certificates. All the participating kids who are under 8 years will receive prizes (trophies). In the higher age groups, first three winners will receive trophies or prizes. All the participants in national competitions will receive prizes. The first prize winner of each category in the national competition will be awarded gold medals.
 
Q9 whatarethe entry fees charged for these competitions?
A fee of $5.00 will be charged from each participating student as application process fee. $5.00 is payable to each competition.
 
Q10 When can we know the results?
The results of each competition (other than written competition) will be announced on the day of the competition. The results of the written competitions will be released on our website 3 weeks after the competition.
 
Q11 Whom can I contact if I wish to discuss about a particular decision or results of the Tamil competition?
The results of the judges on the day are final. The results are subsequently released on our website in due course. If you wish to talk about the performance of you or your son / daughter, you may contact our coordinator directly. You may also write to us. If there is a concern or dispute, the matter will be raised at the meeting of Board of Examiners (BOE). The coordinator will reply with the decision of the BOE to the person who raised the issue / matter.

  1. If I participate in the Tamil competitions, Is there any value or credit for me at my main school system?
    Yes there are number of benefits for those who participate in the competitions. In general,

    a) This competition will provide a platform for kids to perform on the stage in front of a large audience and this experience will help to elevate their confidence and experience as a person and in hi/her future performance.

    b) Also provides reading, writing, speech, debate and drama skills, particularly in Tamil.

    c) Enhance leadership qualities and skills among the students. In respect to main / Tamil school system,
    1) The ministry of ethnic affairs considers the achievements in Tamil competitions when selecting the best `Ethnic school student' award.

    2) Many of the Tamil schools in Australia and New Zealand recognise and reward the kids who participate in Tamil competitions.

    3) Tamil schools also consider the achievements in Tamil competitions when they award best `school student' prizes.
